Jersey Shore 2.0 Suddenly Stops Production After Original Cast Backlash

Jersey Shore 2.0 Production is “paused” just before filming, an MTV spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE.

tmz reported Wednesday that the Atlantic City home — which is gearing up for a whole new generation of Jersey partyers — was rigged with cameras, lighting and security. But the cast members haven’t started filming — and now, it’s doubtful when they will.

to come Jersey Shore The reboot has been controversial from the start. Cast members of the original series – which aired six seasons on MTV from 2009 to 2012 – expressed a lack of support for the new series.

In a joint statement shared freely on their social media accounts, the reality stars condemned the new iteration.

The statement continued, “We have given our all over the past 13 years, become a family and continue to open up our lives to the world.” “So please understand that we are not in support of a version that takes advantage of our original show, our hard work and authenticity to gain audiences.”

Some of the original cast are currently starring Jersey Shore: Family VacationWhich brings together longtime friends and their family members.

In May, MTV announced that Jersey Shore 2.0 comes close to the original Jersey Shore Episode, in which strangers were seen becoming roommates.

“He would have traded his poof for plumped pouts and a spray tan for UV rays,” the statement continued. “But when things heat up in Jersey, Shore is still the place to make summer memories.”

Jersey Shore: Family Vacation Airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on MTV.
