Kelis Calls Out Beyoncé and Pharrell Williams for Not Clearing Song Sample With Her

Declaring “It’s Not a Collab, It’s a Steal”, R&B icon Kelis expressed serious displeasure that her song “Get Along with You” was sampled on Beyoncé’s song “Energy”, which That appears on Bey’s recently released album “Renaissance”.

The “Milkshake” singer’s problem isn’t the money, though, it’s the “level of disrespect” from both Beyoncé and Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, AKA the Neptunes, who produced and wrote the song from her debut album in 1999.

In a pair of videos posted to her Instagram business account, Kelis elaborates on why she’s so upset — disrespect but also, that, in her version of events, it reminds her of how she deserves royalty and music. The rights have been taken out by his former collaborators, to whom he continues to license his music without being asked if he has any objections.

“The issue,” she continued, “is that not only are we female actors, black female actors in an industry where there aren’t many of us… we’ve met each other, we’ve met each other. We have mutual friends. She can contact me, it’s not that hard.”

“Ashnikko, who’s what, 20? She’s a young white girl, she reaches out when she looks weird, it’s just normal decency. It’s normal decency. Especially because, as so many of you pointed out I know what I have and what I don’t. I know what lies were told. I know what has been stolen. Publication was stolen, people were duped of rights It happens all the time, especially then. So, it’s not about me being mad about Beyoncé.”

“He has an issue, because it was silly and disrespectful and he should have at least reached out,” Kelis said, adding that he is mad at his former colleagues Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo. Hugo, she said, “is an amoeba, he’s spineless, it’s a miracle he can keep his neck up.” As for Farrell, he said he “knows better. It’s a direct hit at me. He does this stuff all the time. It’s so petty.”

She not only called out the lack of “human decency” by the parties involved to ask if she was okay – and she accused them of doing so on purpose.

In his follow-up video, Kelis included a written message: “I just heard that record everyone is saying I have my sample. But it’s beyond this song at the moment. It’s a trigger for me.” The Milkshake alone is one of the most licensed records of our generation. I’m a creator, I’m an innovator, I’ve left my mark on an era of music and genre that will go down in history. But bullying in this industry And there are secrets and gangsters who smile and get away with it until someone says it’s enough. So saying today. I’m coming for myself and I want compensation. Peace.”

And in the video itself, he called Williams’ “hypocrisy,” who he said talks about artists’ rights but doesn’t really respect them. Check it out here.
