Cameron Smith is expected to celebrate his British Open win with a drink or two.

The Australian had received the claret jug on the 18th green after winning the 150th Open at St Andrews, when asked what he plans to do later in the day.

“I’m going to find out how many beers fit in this thing for sure,” Smith said in an interview on the first fairway while holding the trophy.

Smith is the first Australian since Kel Nagle in 1960 to win the British Open at the Old Course.

Rory McIlroy is nine holes away from getting his name re-engraved on the silver claret jug.

McIlroy made only one birdie and missed some good chances in the next nine. But he didn’t have to do much. Victor Hovland is the only player at St Andrews who has not yet made a birdie in the final round of the British Open. He dropped a shot on the fourth, ending his streak of 26 straight holes without a bogey.

Cameron Smith and Cameron Young have been involved in a fight over the past two hours.

McIlroy was at 17-under, two clear of Hovland, Smith and Young. McIlroy is trying to finish eight years without a major win. His last 2014 PGA Championship was in Valhalla.

Rory McIlroy takes a two-shot lead in the first nine of the British Open.

Victor Hovland miserably missed his approach in fourth when he blinked for the first time, dropping himself 8 feet from the hole. He made three puts for the bogey. Par-5 On the next hole on the fifth, Hovland was on the rough bottom and could not reach the green in two. He equalized, while McIlroy made two puts for a birdie to reach 17 under.

Cameron Young and Cameron Smith were each 2 under and three shots behind for their round.

The only player to go in the wrong direction was Masters Champion Scotty Scheffler. He got a putt bunker on tee-fifth and a three-put to a bogey. He bogeyed another on the next hole and fell eight shots behind.

Filippo Celli has won the silver medal at the British Open as a low amateur.

The 21-year-old Italian shot 1-under 71 in the final round to end the week at 5-under, six strokes ahead of Aaron Jarvis.

Seely started the day at 4 under and bogeyed two of his first three holes. He finished ninth in four unders with three birdies and three bogeys.

His breakthrough par-5 came in 14th place when he put his second shot within 9 feet of the pin and then sank the eagle’s pup. He bogeyed 17th but barely missed an eagle on 18. Then he made a 2-foot birdie putt.

Selye won the European Amateur Championship in Spain in June. Rory McIlroy and Sergio García are the past winners of that tournament.

McIlroy also won a silver medal at the 2007 British Open as a low amateur.

Rory McIlroy and Victor Hovland begin the final day of the British Open in St Andrews.

McIlroy and Hovland led the tournament at 16-under par, four strokes ahead of Cameron Smith.

A gray sky and light rain are welcome on the final day of the British Open in St Andrews, although Rory McIlroy and Victor Hovland are not expected to be around by the time they start.

They are tied for a 16-under par lead. McIlroy is trying to win his second claret jug and his first Major in eight years. Howland is trying to win his first Major, and a first for Norway.

And so concludes a big week in the house of golf. The R&A has strongly criticized the Saudi-funded rival league and has suggested a change in norms. Tiger Woods crosses the Swilcon Bridge, which may be the last time he has missed the cut.

All that’s left is the “Champion Golfer of the Year” crown. Four players were within five shots of McIlroy and Hovland. It also features Masters Champion Scotty Schaeffler. Nick Faldo is the only other player to win at Augusta National and St Andrews in the same year.
