Garcia ends Swiatek’s winning streak on clay

WARSAW, Poland – Fifth seed Caroline Garcia advanced to the semi-finals of the Poland Open after ending top-ranked Iga iatek’s clay-court winning streak in 18 matches.

García broke through Sweetek in the 10th game of the deciding set to win 6–1, 1–6, 6–4 for his first victory on pole.

Swietec hadn’t lost on clay since the French Open quarterfinals in 2021.

France’s Garcia set up a semi-final match against 10th seed Jasmine Paolini. The Italian player registered a 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Victoria Golubic of Switzerland.

Lucky loser Katarina Bandel came back from a set to beat eighth seed Petra Martic 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. Ukraine will next face Romania’s Ana Bogdan, who beat another lucky loser, Brazilian Laura Pigosi 6-1, 6-1.
