Knicks, Jazz trade talks for Donovan Mitchell “stalled out”

Word that the Wizards and Hornets are in talks isn’t new, but buzz is that those deals are far from over and feel more like leverage to propel the Knicks than anything else.

Sources have told NBC Sports that the Knicks remain a frontrunner and potential landing spot for Mitchell for one simple reason: The Jazz want the draft to return to rebuild them, and the Knicks can trade up to eight. All that’s left is how many picks (the Jazz reportedly asked for six first-rounders in talks) as well as how young players like Quentin Grimes, Obie Toppin and Emmanuel Quickley are in the mix.

Danny Ange is a patient negotiator who awaits people and leads them to bid adieu against himself (we’re looking at you, Timberwolves). Whatever you think of him as Knicks chief executive, Leon Rose has been patient in building this team. Rose isn’t spoiled—dare we say, like the Knicks—walks. With almost a month until the training camps open and another month until the season ends, no one today feels the pressure of a deal. Things stop.

But hopefully Michelle will be in the Knicks’ uniform. eventually.
