Mariners win 13th in row, top Texas 3-2 in 10 innings

Arlington, Texas (AP) – JP Crawford hit an RBI single in the 10th inning as the Seattle Mariners beat the Texas Rangers 3-2 on Saturday to extend their winning streak to 13 games.

Carlos Santana made home as the Mariners (50–42), reaching a club-record 15-game winning streak in his last playoff season in 2001. They have won 21 of their last 24 matches to take eight consecutive series, their most since winning 14 straight sets during that 116-win season 21 years ago.

Seattle will match the longest winning streak among the majors this year with a win in the series finale on Sunday, its final game before the All-Star break. Defending World Series champions Atlanta won 14 matches in a row last month.

Crawford cut a single across first base off Brett Martin (0-5), Texas’ fifth pitcher and had gone in the last two innings. It scored automatic runner Sam Haggerty, who came on as a pinch-runner for Santana, who finished an innings in ninth place.

Diego Castillo (7–1) faced only three batsmen in the ninth, benefiting from a double-play liner after the leadoff batsman walked in. Matthew Festa made his first defense in the 10th.

Crawford and Santana both returned to the Mariners’ lineup. Crawford lost two games to a right index finger injury, and Santana was reinstated from the banned list after being away from the club for a day following a fire at his home in Florida.

Ty France, who received three more hits to raise his batting average to .306, singled out in the third, before Santana hit his eighth homer of the season to lift the Mariners 2–1. France had a double each in the ninth, but her pinch-runner got stuck at base.

Nathaniel Lowe, trapped in a 4-for-26 slide, advanced to Texas with a second-place double and scored on a single by Jonah Heim. Rangers tied the game in seventh after another leadoff double, this one by warming up to Leodi Tavares before Elior Hernandez singled out to get his first career RBI. Taveras has hit .593 (16 off 27) with six doubles in a seven-game hitting streak.
