In a survey of 1,000 current high school football players, OfficialVisit.com determined that the Oklahoma Sooners were the No. 4 brand in college football.
There are a few surprises in the survey itself. It’s interesting to see what the future of sport really thinks about the schools that are hiring them. In the first few places, it’s the usual suspect. Alabama is No. 1, Ohio State is No. 2, Georgia is No. 3, and Oklahoma checks in at No. 4.
This is a great thing for quick ones. Brand identity is everything. Two QB Heisman wins in back-to-back seasons and a finalist the following year probably helps the brand a little. Thanks, Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and Jalen Hurts!
Bob Stoops and then Brent Venables have been tireless in reminding people that Oklahoma college football has one of the best events. Or as Venables would say, “Oklahoma holds no back.”

Oklahoma has moved up four places since the last survey for official travel in 2018. How did they come to this conclusion?
To formulate this question for college football brands, we asked 1,000 high school football players the simple question: “If you were the #1 recruit in the country with offers from every program, how likely would it be (1-10) scale) that you must choose [program]The results were averaged to produce our Official Visiting Brand Score (OVBS) as an industry-specific derivation of the NPS. The official visit also shared that none of the high school students surveyed were being recruited by the Power Five programs in an effort to eliminate any bias caused by recruiting activities.
It looks like the efforts of Brent Venables and company are going well enough for Oklahoma to rank ahead of heavy hitters like Texas and Notre Dame.
If the same survey had been done about 15 years ago, Texas would have been in the top three. The fall down from Texas A&M is an indictment of how the program has been mismanaged since Mack Brown resigned.
Some might argue that this list is only of “good” teams, but I would argue that winning is the biggest brand builder of all.
Unless you’re Maryland Terrapins. Mike Lockley might be on to something in College Park.
As far as the future of the sport is concerned, don’t expect the top three to change any time soon. Nick Saban isn’t going anywhere right now and neither is Kirby Smart. Ryan Day may be the next great college football mind of our time. The Buckeyes are in very good hands.
But sitting at number four is no small feat. This is a great sign that high school students view the University of Oklahoma as one of the best brands in college football. Even after the coaching change, the Oklahoma Sooners are viewed very positively. To quote Bob Stoops, “It’s still Oklahoma.”
