Sergei Pavlovich trucks through Derrick Lewis, who contests stoppage

Whether Derrick Lewis likes it or not, Sergei Pavlovich will take off as the winner at UFC 277 on Saturday.

In the opening seconds of his UFC 277 main card bout, Pavlovich (16-1 MMA, 4-1 UFC) stunned Lewis (26-10 MMA, 17-8 UFC) with a series of punches. The stoppage came at the 0:55 mark, which was very disappointing for Lewis and fans in his home state.

Referee Dan Miragliota conducted the fight as Pavlovic drilled Lewis into the head with a series of surprise punches. Lewis retreated as Pavlovich followed him and continued his barrage. Miragliota dove in after a sequence in which Lewis lands down on canvas. Immediately, Lewis protested.

Upon official judgment, the Dallas crowd at the American Airlines Center did not like it—so much so that they excluded Pavlovich’s post-fight interview.

With the win, Pavlovich extended his winning streak to four. Other wins in the stretch include Marcelo Gollum, Maurice Greene and Shamil Abdurkhimov.

As for Lewis, his struggle to get into the winning column continues. Lewis has now lost three of his most recent four, including back-to-back TKOs to Tai Tuivasa and Pavlovic.

The heavyweight match was part of the UFC 277 main card at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
