Stats in 7-on-7 (unofficial): 10/18 (3/8 in 7-on-7)

Darnold made some highlight plays after spending his first two drills exhausting his check-down options. He deliberately took more downfield chances, and it paid off.

Second-year receivers Teres Marshall and Darnold joined on a 30-yard deep shot during an inside run session. Darnold starts down the center, throws a handoff and is dropped back. Marshall immediately worked deep, leaving his defender behind. With only safety to defeat, Darnold puts up his back foot and launches the ball 50-50. Marshall got up, took the catch and completed it to the ground.

It was the best throw by any quarterback in the camp.

Darnold was not done. The team emphasized the pace of play during this segment. Darnold quickly broke the rumble and caught the defense off guard with a running back screen to Chuba Hubbard. It was blocking well, picking up the first down with ease.

He was not that fast during 7-on-7. During his second series, Darnold threw four straight imperfections before Mayfield took over. The team continues to route evenly between the two quarterbacks.

Best Throw: 30 yard bomb to Marshal. Darnold let his receiver make a play and he did. If he keeps pushing the ball down, it will be a tough match.

Notable mistake: Darnold made no apparent mistake but should not have thrown four straight imperfections during 7-on-7.

Stats (informal): 12/20, TD (3/7 in 7-on-7)

Mayfield’s day began slowly as he held the ball in 7-on-7 drills and missed some intermediate passes.

He worked with the No. 2 group and later settled into practice, especially when a mock was placed in two-minute rehearsals. With 11 players on each side and artificial crowd noises pumping in the background, Mayfield went 6-for-8 on the final drive. An imperfection came off a spike as the Panthers ended practice with a Zane Gonzalez field goal.

On that final drive, Mayfield spreads the ball around. He starts the drive with back-to-back passes to Derek Wright, first down the depth out route and second at check-down. He then quickly threw a pass to D’Onta Foreman, which sprinted for about seven yards and down first.

After a first-down throwaway, Mayfield then went on a screen pass to run back Darius Bradwell, who gained a few yards. Another quick one for Rashard Higgins, who made his way out of bounds, turned the offense down first.

Mayfield’s only wrong move on that drive came on a late game penalty in the drive and the completion of Shea Smith on the third-to-last game. Smith faced inbounds that blew the clock, forcing the offense to spike the ball and settle for a Gonzalez field goal.

Best Throw:

During 7-on-7, Mayfield hit a quick slant off Andre Roberts, who split a pair of defenders and ran into the end zone.

Notable mistake:

Early at 7-on-7, Mayfield swung the seam ball made for Smith well over the head of the 5-foot-10-inch receiver.

Who won the day?

After a quiet Day 2, Darnold returned on Friday. He had the best day ever. Scoring by the end of practice gives them some solid momentum going into Saturday’s Back Together practice.

Mayfield: 1
