Lake Forest – Kyler gets all the attention of Gordon and Jacquan Brisker as rookies on the bear’s defense.

That’s right The secondary tandem has stood out since arriving at Halas Hall, and his impressive game continues through the first week of training camp.

But there’s another defensive rookie on which the Bears are high. While Brisker and Gordon are jockeying for the “Takeaway King” at training camp, Dominic Robinson quietly goes about his business, getting all the information he can from his coaches and teammates.

Robinson arrived at camp in unprecedented shape. The Bears didn’t share their bod-pod results, but they were impressive enough to make teammates wonder just how low the body-fat percentage of the rookies is.

A fifth-round pick, who began his career as a double-threat quarterback before transitioning to wide receiver and defensive end, Robinson didn’t get overwhelmed by his NFL moment.

“So far, it hasn’t been too big,” defensive coordinator Alan Williams said on Friday. “Every situation, every install that comes, that install up, the things we teach him.

“Every day is a new day for him. Something comes along that he goes, ‘Okay, we need to teach you this or read your keys a little better,’ but it’s fixed the next day. So, it’s good when you have a player who probably makes a mistake on the first day, you correct it in the meeting, and then the second day he corrects it when it comes up again. That’s a sign of such a guy Joe’s gonna be okay, a guy who’s a professional.”

With Robert Quinn arriving at camp and announcing his intention to be the Bears this season, Robinson bumps back from the depth charts and focuses on refining his raw athletic abilities before asking to make an impact on Sunday. could.

That doesn’t mean the bears aren’t expecting a rookie to contribute this fall. Robinson’s athleticism and appetite were evident to his teammates from the day he entered the building.

“He’s a great player,” Travis Gipson said of Robinson during the minicamp in June. “He’s a great student of the game, comes to work, never late, always has his playbook in his hand, eager to learn. Honestly reminds me. Fifth round pick, chip on his shoulder , dominating exercises every day and still looking to get better wherever he goes.”

It may take some time for Robinson’s journey to reach his potential. But it is the one the Bears are willing to wait on because of their belief in how good he can be.

“The sky is the limit for him,” Williams said.

Now, Bear must find a way for Robinson and his rare athletic gifts to touch the sky.
