After being struck by a pitch, New York Yankees slugger Josh Donaldson was at the centre of a brawl with the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday.

Josh Donaldson, a former Blue Jay, has been the centre of attention for the wrong reasons for what seems like the entire season.

Donaldson is a divisive figure, and after a contentious argument with Tim Anderson earlier this year in which he referred to the White Sox shortstop as "Jackie," he's back to his old ways.

The Yankees third baseman was beaned by Toronto pitcher Yusei Kikuchi in the first inning, and he did not take it well.

Donaldson retaliated by hitting the ground with his bat. It's unclear whether the Yankees' pitching staff will retaliate in any way.

New York was riding a nine-game winning streak into the matchup. The Yankees have added to their already formidable AL East division lead by sweeping the Tampa Bay Rays and now performing well against the Blue Jays.

They have a 12-game edge over Toronto and a 13-game lead over Tampa Bay as of Sunday.

Kikuchi appears to be struggling with control, particularly with his fastball inside.

If he had a bone to pick with Donaldson (and Aaron Hicks in the second inning), it's unlikely he'd go after them this early in the game.
